Client Challenge

A major donor for one of the five program areas at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum requested a strategic plan to support this particular program’s growth. The Museum wanted a process that integrated feedback from the team and external stakeholders, not just a top-down plan. They also wanted a plan that was usable, not just a box-check for their donor.

Our Solution

We worked with the program to define their future state, and then worked backwards, defining what would need to happen to get the program’s desired results. Where they couldn't measure impact yet, we worked with them to build reasonable milestones to ensure they continued to make progress against their goals.

Our Results

The program is currently executing a plan we helped them develop. Their plan allows them to make more strategic decisions about their work, rationalizes requests for funding, and has ongoing engagement from the full office, from the director to entry level staff. The Museum leadership found our approach so effective that they asked us to develop plans for the institution, each of the programs and several non-programmatic offices, as well as supporting them to build needed capacity.
